Whole 30 Taco Seasoning

I currently have several clients who really, really enjoy Mexican fare. They wouldn't mind me sharing that chips and salsa and jumbo margaritas were once an every weekend indulgence. They still enjoy these things from time to time, but we have worked to develop several healthier swaps for the things that they enjoy. Enter: Homemade, Whole30 Taco Seasoning! These spices are easily thrown together and the combination tastes great on ground beef or chicken. It doesn't contain any MSG or other additives like the packets you buy from the store. It makes enough for 3 lbs of meat and stores well in a sealed container if you don't use it all right away. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 Tbsp. chili powder

  • 2 tsp. ground cumin

  • 1 ½ tsp. garlic powder

  • ½ tsp. onion powder

  • 1 tsp. dried oregano

  • ¼ tsp. paprika

  • 1 tsp. sea salt

  • ¼-½ tsp. cayenne pepper (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Stir to combine. Store in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months.

To prepare taco meat:
  1. Add 1 lb. ground beef a medium skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. Use a spoon to break apart the meat as it cooks.

  3. When the meat is cooked through, drain the fat from the pan. Sprinkle 1 ½ Tbsp. taco seasoning over meat and add 2-3 Tbsp. water to the pan. Stir to combine, adding more water as needed.
